Propranolol

Propranolol is a beta blocker often prescribed for patients that have high blood pressure and some other heart problems. It works by relaxing blood vessels and decreasing blood pressure. Propranolol is also efficient for the prevention of migraine headaches and chest pain. Propranolol comes in a variety of forms – as a tablet, capsule, solution and concentrate for oral administration. Depending on the form prescribed you will be required to take it once a day or more often. Make sure you listen to the instructions of your health care provider carefully to understand how you are supposed to take this drug to benefit from the treatment. If you are taking any of the following please make sure your doctor knows about it in advance before prescribing any dosage of propranolol: vitamins, drugs for heart disease, high blood pressure medicines, reserpine, medicines for the treatment of colds, drugs for migraine headaches, asthma or allergies meds, or pain medications. Some of these drugs can cause interference while others are likely to lower the effectiveness of propranolol. Also, tell your doctor about any of the health conditions mentioned below that you used to have or currently have: lung disease, diabetes, severe allergies, heart disease, thyroid problems, asthma, liver or kidney disease. A dose adjustment may be required in your case or your health care provider will want to monitor your condition closely to make sure the treatment is efficient for you.
